Why does Soft Drinks Bottle have 5 Bumps at the bottom?

At which age you noticed that bottom of soft drinks bottle and water bottle are different?

Only few have noticed and thought about this discrimination.

Most Soft drinks bottles have 5 bumps at the bottom where  as most water bottles have flat bottom. If don’t know the reason, this is a perfect article for you learn something new.

The reason behind this is explained here :

Most of the soft drinks or soda bottles are pressurized by filling gas. So the plastic bottle must be able to withstand the pressure. It should also absorb the shocks when you accidently drop the bottle.

Hence the soft drink bottles have 5bumps which increase the strength of the bottle. And it’s able to withstand the pressure of the gas inside it. This also increases the stability of the bottle.

There is another explanation:

Soft drinks are served chilled. When a liquid is cooled, it’s volume changes and the bottle must not buckle because of this change in volume. The corner or the tip of the bump can slightly expand/contract without breaking, which takes care of the change in the volume of the liquid.

In the case of normal bottles or water bottles, the pressurized gas is absent. Bottled water is not carbonated so there is no need for a pointed bottom. Hence it has a flat bottom. A flat bottom uses less plastic and holds up better in drop testing.
