The West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) has released the official scheme and syllabus for the Clerkship Examination. Securing a government job in West Bengal requires a thorough understanding of the recruitment stages. The selection process consists of three distinct stages: Part-I (Objective Type), Part-II (Conventional Type, Written), and a final Computer Operation and Typing assessment.

WBPSC Clerkship Exam Pattern 2026

The WBPSC Clerkship examination is divided into two primary written papers before the skill test phase.

Part-I: Objective Type Exam

Part-I acts as the initial screening test and consists entirely of multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

    • Total Marks and Questions: The paper contains 100 questions, carrying a total of 100 marks.

    • Duration: Candidates are given 1 hour 30 minutes (90 minutes) to complete this section.

    • Negative Marking: There is a penalty of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer in Part I.

Candidates who qualify in Part-I move on to Part-II, which tests descriptive writing skills.

    • Total Marks: The paper is worth 100 marks.

    • Duration: The exam lasts for 1 hour (60 minutes).

    • Group Breakdown: The exam is divided into two equal groups. Group-A focuses on English and carries 50 marks. Group-B carries 50 marks and allows candidates to choose a regional language: Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Nepali, or Santali.

Stage 3: Computer Operation and Typing Assessment

This final stage is conducted only for candidates who successfully qualify in both Part-I and Part-II. It tests elementary computer operation knowledge and typing ability.

    • Typing Speed Requirements: Candidates must demonstrate a minimum typing speed of 20 words per minute (wpm) in English or 10 wpm in Bengali.
