UPSC CDS Eligibility, Syllabus, exam Pattern

1.  What is UPSC CDS?

       UPSC CDS (Combined Defence Services) is an all India base exam conducted by UPSC, for those who want to be a part of Indian Military Service, Officer’s Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force. This exam held twice in a year, named CDS (I) and CDS (II), in the month of February and September respectively.

2.  UPSC CDS Eligibility:

       *Nationality:-

·       A citizen of India

·       A subject of Bhutan

·       A subject of Nepal

·       A Tibetan refugee who came India before 1st January 1963

       *Age:–

·       For Indian Military Academy – 18-23 years

·       For Indian  Naval Academy – 18-23 years

·       For Indian Air Force Academy – 20-24 years

·       For Officers’ Training Academy – 18-24 years

     *SEX and Martial Status:-

·       For Indian Military Academy only Unmarried Male candidates can apply.

·       For Indian Naval Academy only Unmarried Male candidates can apply.

·       For Indian Air Force Academy Married and Unmarried both Male candidates are eligible. But for Unmarried candidates age must be below 25 years while Married candidates of above 25 years can also apply.

·       For Officers’ Training Academy (SSC for Men) Married and Unmarried both are eligible.

·       For Officers’ Training Academy (SSC Non-Technical for Women) Unmarried, Widow who have not remarried and Divorces who have not remarried can apply.

      *Educational Qualification :–

  •        For Indian Military Academy and Officers’ Training Academy candidate must have a Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
  •       For Indian Naval Academy candidates must have a degree in Engineering from a recognized University or Institution.
  •      For Indian Air Force Academy candidate must have a Degree from a recognized University (With Mathematics and Physics in 10+2 level) or Bachelor of engineering.
  •       Aspirants who have professional and qualification that are recognized by the government as equivalent degrees are also eligible.
  •       Candidates who are appearing for the qualifying exam of a degree course can also apply provided they do not have any backlog upto the last semester and can submit required documents at the time of admission.

3.  UPSC CDS Pattern:

      CDS  is an objective type Offline Exam. It has two stages-

      a) Written Exam and b) Interview for Intelligence and Personality Test.

4. UPSC CDS Syllabus:-

·      English – Antonyms, Synonyms, Spotting Errors, Sentence Improvement, Word Substitution, Selecting Words, Comprehension, Ordering of Sentences, Ordering of words in a sentence.

    ·    General knowledge- Current Affairs, History of India, Geography, Politics and Economy.

  ·  Elementary Mathematics – Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Mensuration, Statistics,
